Last week, the Wairarapa Times-Age published a full feature on the Wairarapa Water Summer Series, highlighting the strong regional partnerships behind this hands-on programme and the importance of building a more water-resilient future for our region.

The feature showcases the collaborative efforts to strengthen how the region uses, manages, and protects its water resources — ensuring economic growth and environmental wellbeing can progress side by side.

The Summer Series, now in its third season, is a practical demonstration of the goals set out in the Wairarapa Water Resilience Strategy (WWRS). The programme shares local examples of innovation, from precision irrigation to diversified land-use supported by reliable water.

As highlighted in the Times-Age feature, this year’s events include:

  • 20 November 2025 – Irrigation Methods for Local Conditions
A field visit to Kokotau exploring a range of irrigation technologies in real-life application.
  • February 2026 – Opportunities Through Diversification
A look at an out-of-region investment into viticulture enabled by reliable water infrastructure.
  • March 2026 – Water Security at Waingawa
A behind-the-scenes look at Carterton District Council’s water infrastructure investment and the construction of a new surface storage pond.

These events reflect the value of community-led action supported by regional strategy — bringing together expertise, technology, and local knowledge to help shape a more water-resilient Wairarapa.

Through the WEDS Work Programme, we are proud to support the Summer Series as its primary sponsor. It’s an example of how strong partnerships and shared purpose can lead to practical, on-the-ground benefits for landowners, businesses, and communities.
